Scholar Success Program Manager

Reports to: Executive Director
FLSA: 40 Hours Weekly

Role Summary

San Francisco Achievers (SFA) is looking for an organized, energetic self-starter to serve as the Scholar Success Program Manager for our growing non-profit organization. The ideal candidate will be mission-oriented and will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be committed to our mission-to reduce the achievement gap of African American young men in San Francisco high schools through support, mentoring, and college scholarships-and must be dedicated to expanding his/her career opportunities. Persistence and tenacity are required to keep volunteer mentors and scholars motivated and excited about the benefits of effective mentoring. Responsibilities

Mentor Program

  • Perform Mentor background checks, reference checks & in-person/phone interviews
  • Strive for diversity amongst your recruited mentors and emphasize specific industries/fields when seeking to pair scholars with career mentors
  • Keep track of Mentor and Volunteer applications as they are received
  • Assess student records and determine Mentor/Mentee pairs
  • Introduce Mentors to Mentees
  • Follow Up on Initial Introductions
  • Send out Mentor assessment forms/check-in with Mentors and Mentees
  • Problem-Solve with mentors
  • Organize and facilitate Mentor Roundtables (event planning, coordination, invites, and data collection)
  • Organize and facilitate orientation information sessions (4-6 times a year)
  • Organize Mentor trainings and community-building opportunities
  • Plan and Execute mentor/mentee meet & greets and events (5-8 per year)
  • Send out Mentor evaluations

Scholar Success (General Administration)

  • Responsible for completion of board reports
  • Manage Scholar Success Committee meetings (plan, create agendas, follow-up)
  • Arrange for Scholars to attend donor events and opportunities (All Stars, Warriors Games, etc.)
  • Assist in event planning and event management
  • Compile data for board meetings, grants, general reporting
  • Organize, plan, and execute SFA’s Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony
  • Manage and organize scholarship interview process

Partners

  • Cultivate fruitful partnerships with academic institutions and community partners (ScholarMatch, uAspire, SRA, EAOP, UC Berkeley, UCSF, USF, CCSF, SFSU, etc.)
  • Continuously develop new partnerships through LinkedIn, Social Networking, CSN, etc.
  • Follow up with school counselors
  • Arrange for Scholars to apply to other scholarships and programs—often requires arranging the interviews for other programs
  • Manage current and new internship resources

College Program

  • Solicit opportunities to Scholars (targeted and general)
  • Responsible for case management of Scholars
  • Develop cohort of volunteer tutors
  • Ensure mentorship for career-ready Scholars
  • Coordinate program events (LinkedIn, Professional Development, Internships, Job Announcements)
  • Oversee scholarship renewal application reminders
  • Manage scholarship check verification process and ensure distribution

Leadership Academy Program

  • Conduct scholar recruitment lunches (~12 per year) – food, counselor collaborations, school partnerships, presentations, etc.
  • Review annual syllabus
  • Manage and Assist Scholar Success Program Coordinator in leading Leadership Academy workshops on Saturdays (one Saturday a month)
  • Oversee venue selection and reservation
  • Order Breakfast and Lunch
  • Create scholarship resources

Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 2-3 years of professional experience in mentoring, coaching, youth development, recruiting, etc. preferred
  • Excellent public speaking/presentation skills with diverse groups of adults and youth
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extremely organized, reliable, and responsible
  • Self-starter and collaborator
  • Skilled using Google Drive and Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Background in/strong knowledge of volunteer recruitment strategies
  • Knowledge of challenges specific to, and support systems for, inner-city youth
  • Experience working with web-sites, social networks, creating decks, webinars
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize tasks/meet deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Experience in managing a mentoring or student service program preferred

Scholar Success Program Coordinator

SFA provides four-year college scholarships and mentoring to African American males in San Francisco public high school. The ideal candidate will be mission oriented and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Persistence and tenacity required to keep volunteer mentors and scholars motivated and excited about the benefits of effective mentoring. Must be committed to our mission to help underrepresented African American young people attend and graduate from college, to expand their career opportunities. Responsibilities

Mentor Program

  • Provide assistance to SSPM with recruiting Mentors (e.g. social media, reaching out to networks, hosting recruitment events, etc.)
  • Assist SSPM with assessing student records and determining mentor/mentee pairs
  • Assist SSPM with Mentor Roundtables (roundtable content, team-building activities)
  • Provide assistance to SSPM with Mentor Trainings (event planning and coordination, creation of syllabus and workshop content)

Scholar Success (General Administration)

  • Arrange for students to attend donor events and partner opportunities (Oakland A’s, Warriors Games, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Manage and track data on Scholars (GPA, mentor check-ins, support from other CBO’s)
  • Assist SSPM with management and execution of our annual Awards Ceremony
  • Provide assistance to SSPM with planning and coordinating our Scholarship Interview Process
  • Assist SSPM with execution and planning of our scholarship application review event

Internships and Employment Partnership Management

  • Develop and maintain fruitful partnerships with internship and employment resources (Project Pull, UCSF, LeadersUp, LinkedIn, Google, etc.)
  • Create and maintain an internship/employment placement tracker for each Scholar
  • Continuously develop new Partnerships through social networking, LinkedIn, CSN, etc.
  • Coordinate student outreach and manage event attendance recruitment: (arrange for students to attend special events such as Tree-Lighting, Steph Curry, Multicultural Fair, First Graduate, LinkedIn, United Way, etc.)

College Program

  • Send out employment and job opportunities to Scholars (Targeted and General)
  • Case Manage our current roster of Scholars (execute check-ins, generate and manage data)
  • Seek out tutoring resources for Scholars when needed
  • Assist SSPM with coordinating communication to Scholars about events (LinkedIn, Professional Development, Internships, Job Announcements)
  • Send renewal application reminders and follow-up with scholars at the end of each semester

Leadership Academy Program

  • Oversee Leadership Academy Workshops on Saturdays
  • Identify venue and make reservations
  • Confirm breakfast and lunch delivery

Ambassadors Program

  • Present Program to Leadership Academy Scholars
  • Train nominated Ambassadors (distribute proper documentation: logs, assigned Scholars list, contract)
  • Create Ambassadors’ Logs
  • Manage and ensure Ambassadors’ check-ins and logs are completed and submitted by due date
  • Compile All Student Data and Reports
  • Give Feedback to Ambassadors
  • Coordinate with SSPM to print and send stipend checks
  • Follow Up with Scholars who express concerns or struggles to Ambassadors during check- ins
