Tarrell V. Gamble
Board Chair
San Francisco Achievers

The Board of Directors of San Francisco Achievers (SF Achievers), a nonprofit youth development and scholarship organization founded in 2008 to address the achievement and opportunity gaps facing African American young men in San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), proudly announces the selection of Duane C. Wilson as Executive Director.

“We are extremely excited to announce this appointment as we embark on the next decade of our collective journey to be the foundation of educational opportunity for African American young men in SFUSD—and in the greater Bay Area,” said SF Achievers’ Board Chair, Tarrell V. Gamble.

Duane Wilson calls the Chicagoland area home, and after starting his first business while in high school, he advised youth on starting their own enterprises—empowering them to believe that they could achieve anything. During his college years, while a founder of a startup company and an intern in Europe and at Disney, Duane created a degree program in Social Entrepreneurship, earning a Certificate in Nonprofit and Entrepreneurial Management at The University of Iowa. Upon returning to the Chicago area, he also earned a Certificate in Values-Centered Leadership from DePaul University.

Duane is also an author of a children’s book, Jackie and The Dreamstalk, an inspirational guide to starting a business for young readers (ages 9-14 years old). Community leadership and service are central to his life, embodied in his foundation, The Spirit of Philanthropy; teaching as Adjunct Faculty for Entrepreneurship and Management at Columbia College in Chicago; as a Manager of a business accelerator for Goodcity; and as past Executive Director of a Chicago nonprofit, The Peace Corner Youth Center—among other academic and community development board posts, church, fraternity and civic engagements (www.linkedin.com/in/duanecwilson).

“I am truly honored and humbled to serve as SF Achievers’ Executive Director, and I look forward to joining you in San Francisco as I transition from Chicago. I am excited to build a relationship with each of you as we show the world what can truly happen with compassion, integrity, and innovation in championing our youth…,” said Duane.
